Beth, It's 2017 and I'm trying to get to a lot of things I left hanging in 2016. Sorry I never answered your inquiry. I saved your message in hopes I would get to it and today is the day. The birds are made from paper mache with weights inside to give them stability. They are on a dowel that connects them to little rolling platforms made from old bead board siding. I cut the wood by hand and made the axles from dowels and tin. The axle pins are thumb tacks. The books are old canceled stamps I've saved with a simple phamplet binding. Happy 2017! Margaret
